Evaluation

Your completed blog is due on Wednesday.

Please ensure it is finished with the detail needed to get the grade you think you should get.

Have a look at the list on the assignment brief of what should be included in your work. 

After the performance on Tuesday you should write an evaluation of the piece. 

Consider the following:

• What were the strengths of your own performance? 
• What things might you have developed further if you'd had time?
• What have your learnt about naturalism this term?
• How did the application of Stanislavski's techniques help your performance? Did you play your objectives? Did you communicate intentions to the audience well? Why/why not?
• Write a brief evaluation about another person's performance - what were their strengths in the performance and why?

I would still like us to speak about the social, historical, political and cultural research. We can do this on Tuesday in Language of Theatre.

Please make sure you have all completed a pink sheet for the work you were doing both in and out of the lesson.

UNIT 19: PRINCIPLES OF ACTING

Criteria:

Task 1:

Today's lesson started with a short exploration of Laban efforts.

• Why did we do this?
• What are the Laban efforts?
• What might you be able to use from this exercise to aid your character development?

Task 2:

You were then cast in sections of 'The Cherry Orchard'. (See casting note below)

Initially you discussed the scene you were cast in.

• What happens in the scene(s) you are in?
• You should bullet point the key moments/plot.
• What opportunities do you have in this scene?

Task 3:

You worked in character groups. You discussed the role you were sharing. 

You were asked to decided on the SUPER-OBJECTIVE for the character.

What did you discuss and decide upon? Give justifications - this might be through annotation of the text. 

You were then asked to discuss three lists:

What other people say about you...

What you say about others...

What you say about yourself...

You should continue to add to this list over the week - the answers are quotes from the texts. This will help you with having a clear understanding of the character. For example, if nothing is really said about your character by others, what could that tell you? You need to work hard actors...there are lots of clues in text to help you discover the character. This exploration and research phase should be exciting. 

Task 4:

We worked on creating a short opening  - reflect on this so far and the improvements that need to be made for it to becoming rooted in truth.

Task 5:

We started working on the scenes. If you were directed today - write a response to this. 

• How has blocking the text helped your understanding?
• What new things have you learnt about the character? 
• What relationships have you started to develop on stage.

TEXT PREPARATION TASK:

You need to do the following tasks to prepare your text.

OBJECTIVE:

Work out the objective for the scene you are in - what does your character want? What is their motivation? What do they want to achieve in that scene?

UNITS:

• Split the scene into units.
• Give each unit a title.
• Give each unit an objective

See page 128 of your Bella Merlin book to see how this can look.

Remember we spoke about this last week - you all started this on the A3 paper.

By knowing and understanding what you want and need in the scene - blocking the scene and being the character will happen so much easier for you.

I suggest you photocopy your lines - you might make a mistake or change your mind!

This will be an ongoing document and should include inspiration for your character, such as pictures, music, text etc.
